The massively parallel high throughput Genome Sequencer FLX System has arrived. This next-generation sequencer developed by 454 Life Sciences Corporation supports an expansive range of applications which provide an extended capacity for discovery and understanding. The FLX technology allows for more efficient productivity by eliminating the need for cloning and colony picking, while increasing speed, accuracy, and cost efficiency.

Performance characteristics

• One machine run generates > 100 MB in less than eight hours
• Average read lengths between 200 - 300 bases
• Throughput of > 400,000 reads per run
• Single read accuracy is > 99.5% over 200 bases
• Consensus accuracy is > 99.99%
• Lower cost per base compared to Sanger sequencing
• Ability to sequence up to 16 independent samples in a single run
