Outreach
The CGB fulfills its mission through outreach in a number of different
ways:
- Over the years, we have joined existing initiatives and
consortia and have, when appropriate, started new goal-specific
groups. Our experience shows that, when well organized, initiatives
and consortia can be effective ways of achieving large goals with
modest amounts of funding.
- Our scientists have long records of publications and,
finally, some of our early work is now coming to fruition in
publications.
- We have an extensive set of mailing lists for various
announcements.
- The 2008-09 academic year marks the first time we have,
together with the Department of Biology, coordinated a seminar
series. The IUB Seminar Series in Genomics and Bioinformatics
represents interests from Biology, the School of Informatics, and the
CGB, with additional funding from the Dean of the Faculties.
- We have a plethora of workshops that arise, often somewhat
spontaneously, to address current needs of researchers. Often, it is
our collaborators who take the initiative of starting and organizing
the group, using CGB contacts to pull in participants. These
workshops often bring together researchers who wouldn't ordinarily meet.
This website will look much better in a browser that supports
web standards, but it has been designed so
that it is still usable and accessible to any browser or web-enabled device.
